Edwin Walker, a long time club member, wrote a history of Fleetwood Golf 1893-1993 and stored many archives. Since his passing, Malcolm Clegg, past club Captain and President, has kept records of the club and researched our history, finding records of golf being played at Fleetwood going back to 1861 by officers of the barracks that are now the North Euston hotel.
Malcolm now wishes to hand over this knowledge and the club wish to produce an updated history to incorporate the period from 1994 onwards, so that we have a complete history of the club. We've produced a history wall that is on display in the club house and celebrated our 125th anniversary in 2018. During the later part of our quasquicentennial year, a history group was formed to digitally store and manage our archives.

The causeway, which will be open 2022, will be the final part of that project!
Our club historian Malcolm Clegg (Captain 1993 and President 2007-08) has spent many years researching Fleetwood's golf club history.
Golf was first played in Fleetwood in 1861 by officers of the barracks for The Olympic Trophy.
When articled solicitor, Forrester Addie was to move from Preston and set up a business in Fleetwood in 1893, he would have been dismayed to learn that the town had no golf club where he could continue his obvious passion for the game. Undaunted, he called a public meeting and in no time had achieved support to set up a club initially with a nine hole course, that ran alongside the beach from the Mount Hotel towards the cemetery and back. This was before the promenade section south of the Mount Hotel was built as we know it, and with salt marsh where we now see the yachting and marine lakes, there was a pitch and putt courses and the town's present golf course.
Forrester Addie became Fleetwood's first golf captain and the first recorded golf competition for Fleetwood members is recorded on 2nd December 1893 In the same year Accrington also established it's own golf club and the two arranged a golf match to celebrate their twin achievements.
The match was won by Accrington by one hole. One hundred years later in 1993, appropriate celebration events were being arranged by both clubs. For Fleetwood, this included a special golf competition, an Old Time Music Hall concert and Dinner and finally the highlight, - that of a 100-year Centenary return golf match with Accrington, and this time it was won by Fleetwood.
In 2018, the two clubs again "˜locked horns' in competition, - this time to celebrate the one and a quarter Centenary since the two clubs had first arranged a golf match. With a break from tradition, this time both teams included Lady members and were led by Centenary Captains Malcolm Clegg for Fleetwood and Terry Crossley for Accrington. Fleetwood won the match with a breath-taking finish and by winning the final hole of the final match of the ten match competition. After the match the 40 players enjoyed a meal and presentation of a memento of the occasion, which can be seen in the club trophy cabinet.
